time is a flyin...

SO MUCH TO DO.
SO little TIME.
good grief. time is flying. i really feel like i won't get to check off all my things i want to do before my time is up. we girls sure are great at packing our weekends with so many things to do.
fridays i dont have to work and amanda gets off at 1. so the two of us decided to take a lovely little adventure out to governor's island. such a neat place. loved every second of it. the island is opened on fridays til 5 pm so by the time we got to the ferry, we had just enough time to explore. oh and to make things better, it was free bike friday. so we got to mozy around the island on some cute little beach cruisers, instead of having to pay the usual $25.
[funny story]
so as we're waiting in line for our bicycles...
amanda and i read a sign that says
"free bike friday is for children & adults, or small groups."
we were fine because we counted as a small group.
but standing behind us was a kid that was alone, around our age, AND freaking out.
"i have no partner, i have no kids, i have no family, oh i have a family, just not here, i'm an adult, freakkkkkkkkk how am i gonna get a free bike?"
... (long pause)
as he taps amanda on the shoulder,
"oh hiiii (as he pushes back his glasses onto his nose) my name is AJ,
do you two wanna be my white lesbian sisters so i can get a free bike?"
we were both a little taken back.
amanda,"uhmm yes we will be your sisters, but why do we have to be lesbian?"
HAHA. it seriously was hilarious.
i couldn't stop laughing. i don't know if it was the fact that i was laughing at what he had said
OR
that he looked like a chubbier version of steve erkle.
anyways, we get to the front of the line and we all sign a release form. the workers look at the paper, look at us, look at the paper again.
AJ- "Ya, these are my sisters!"
(more laughing.)
They then ask for one of our Driver's Liscenses as collateral for the bikes, so i hand them mine.
I was a little hesitant at first because goodness this perfect stranger could run away with this free bicycle and never return, meanwhile i'm stranded on lonely governor's island, while they hold my driver's liscense captive.
i turn to AJ.
and say in a somewhat jokingly/serious manner..
"AJ, you best be back here before the island closes or i wont get my drivers liscense back, and then i wont get to board my plane, and then i won't get back home. I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN."
i think i might have scared him.
he promised he would be back in time, in fact he said he would be 15 minutes early.
we then proceed to the counter where they hand us our bikes. the whole time that we had been in line, i had my eye set on a pretty little baby blue beach cruiser. my heart was set on it. as i approach the counter they hand me a black one. my heart sank. haha gosh dang it! no more blue! so as i'm leaving, they hand AJ a baby blue bike that had just gotten returned,
me- "AJ, i'll trade you!"
AJ- "oh you're too sweet, but i really will ride this blue one."
and then he peddles off into the distance..
(amanda and i both a little hestitant wondering if we will ever see our newly found "brother" AJ again and if i will get my driver's liscense back.)
as he pedaled away, amanda & i just bust up laughing.
seriously, we have the funniest incidents happen while we are here in new york, we just never know what to expect.
so our hour of freeness is up, and we decide we better head to the rental counter. as we ride up, low and behold brother AJ is right in front of us.
(sigh of relief)
he told us thank you, and that we made his day because he hadn't ridden a bicycle since he was 3.
oh AJ.. we will never forget you. [all i really wanted was a pretty blue bicycle...]
[i'd so live here.]
[amanda & myself.]
this weekend at governor's island was the magnificent
'figment art festival'
filled with tons of art, that quite frankly,
i'll be honest, i didn't understand, but still kind of neat. haha. :)
[message in a bottle project. ok this one i actually understood and it was sweet.]
[interpretive, modern dance. cool, but not my cup of tea.]
[colonel's row]
after governor's island.
we met up with the rest of the gals at union square for dinner.
thai food. yum :)
then we split up, and val, amanda and i hit up 5th avenue for some shopping.
saturday i met up with val & amanda once again to finish up the more ritzy part of the avenue. we went into chanel, prada, louis vuitton, WAY COOL STORES, haha but oh so freaking expensive.
oh my goodness.
have you seen the apple store here?
i think i'm officially converted.
coolest. store. ever.
its all undergroud, so this pretty little glass elevator takes you to the bottom.
i was in love.
speaking of love..
it was real male model day at abercrombie & fitch
meet mr. alabama
our wedding invites are in the mail..
i sent my mom this picture to her phone.
her reply,
"shut up! is he mormon?"
haha oh mom i love you.
we also hit up FAO Schwarz.
biggest toy store of my entire life time.
anyone interested in a barbie fooseball table.
all yours for the low price of $24,999.
good grief.
the only thing that put a damper on our non stop weekend, would be the lovely rain.
hence the reason i look like a bum and my hair is scattered. oh well. such is life.
sunday.
BIG NEWS.
i no longer have to be mr. lonely. because yay janna my roomate came! i am so excited that she is finally here. let the good times keep rolling baby! today was regional conference so we walked 34 blocks to the temple.
Elder L. Tom Perry was presiding. such a great meeting.
i appreciate things like this so much more now that i'm out here. it's just what i needed.
the walk back home was an experience and a half.
four words.
PUERTO RICAN PRIDE FESTIVAL.
talk about sticking out like a sore thumb.
i've never wanted dreads and a ghetto booty so badly in my life.
here we are two WHITE SHORT BLONDE GIRLS
just walkin through tons and tons of people.
we literally had 3 different people ask us if we were twins.
we thought it was bad when we were at school and our professors couldn't tell the difference between us, ha day one in new york city together and we're already getting mistaken.
so funny.
anyways.
hope ya'll are doing great.
until next time..
audios!
